A Journey Through the Chakras and the Healing Power of Grief

Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth, felt the call to descend into the underworld—a journey of sacrifice, wisdom, and deep transformation. She did not take this path lightly, for she knew the dangers that awaited. She was descending to comfort her grieving sister, Ereshkigal, but she also understood that this journey would demand something from her. Before she left, she gave careful instructions to her most trusted servant: If I do not return in three days, sound the alarm. Come for me.

The Seven Gates of the Underworld: A Journey Through the Chakras

As Inanna reached the underworld, she encountered seven gates, each demanding that she relinquish a piece of her identity.

                  1.             The Gate of Authority (Crown Chakra) – At the first gate, she was asked to remove her crown. This symbolized that her divine authority held no power in the underworld. She surrendered her sovereignty, stepping into the unknown without the protection of her rank.

                  2.             The Gate of Perception (Third Eye Chakra) – At the second gate, she gave up her staff, the symbol of her wisdom and vision. Here, she accepted that insight alone would not serve her in this realm.

                  3.             The Gate of Communication (Throat Chakra) – At the third gate, she surrendered her necklace, acknowledging that words and proclamations carried no weight in the silent depths of grief.

                  4.             The Gate of Compassion (Heart Chakra) – At the fourth gate, she removed her breastplate, exposing her heart. Here, she accepted that love, in its purest form, is felt, not wielded.

                  5.             The Gate of Personal Power (Solar Plexus Chakra) – At the fifth gate, she let go of her golden ring, a symbol of her power and will. Control was meaningless here; only surrender remained.

                  6.             The Gate of Passion (Sacral Chakra) – At the sixth gate, she removed her ankle bracelets, stripping away her creative and sensual force. She could not seduce, charm, or create her way out of the darkness.

                  7.             The Gate of the Root (Root Chakra) – At the final gate, she removed her robe, standing completely naked before her sister. Stripped of all status, wisdom, power, and protection, Inanna was now fully vulnerable.

The Death of Inanna

Ereshkigal, lost in the depths of her own grief, turned her pain upon her sister. With a gaze of sorrow and rage, she struck Inanna dead. The Queen of Heaven, who had descended out of love, was now nothing more than a lifeless body, hanging on a hook in the underworld.

Above, three days passed. The faithful servant, remembering Inanna’s instructions, sounded the alarm. The gods were moved, but only one answered: Enki, the god of the ocean. With his divine wisdom, he created two small beings—one holding the breath of life, the other carrying the water of life. He sent them into the underworld with clear instructions.

The Healing Power of Mourning

When these small creatures reached Ereshkigal, they did not attempt to fix her pain. They did not offer advice, tell her to look on the bright side, or urge her to move on. Instead, they simply mourned with her.

They wept when she wept. They wailed when she wailed. They honored her suffering, not by trying to change it, but by witnessing it.

Ereshkigal, for the first time, felt truly seen in her grief. Moved by their presence, she granted them a gift—anything they desired. They asked for Inanna. And so, she was restored with the breath of life and the water of life, returning to the land of the living transformed.

The New Moon in Pisces February 27, 2025: Embracing the Healing Waters

Like Inanna, we are being called into our own underworld. The New Moon in Pisces, coupled with Venus retrograding back into Pisces from Aries, invites us to surrender—not to fix, fight, or force understanding, but to simply be.

This is a time to give voice to our emotions without judgment, to allow our grief, joy, longing, and love to exist without needing to justify them. Tears, like holy water, wash away the veils of uncertainty, dissolving pain and making space for renewal.

Inanna teaches us that healing does not come from avoiding the descent, but from moving through it with grace. Sometimes, the greatest gift we can offer ourselves and others is not a solution, but the space to be seen, to be held, and to be honored in our journey—however dark, however deep.

Let the waters of this Pisces moon cleanse you. Let the wisdom of Inanna remind you that rebirth always follows surrender. And when the time comes, may you rise, whole and radiant, into the light once more.

Much Love

Lisa
