On May 16, 2026, the Sun and Moon join together in Taurus, seeding a new chapter in the fixed earth sign of beauty, steadiness, embodiment, pleasure, and value. This New Moon is exact at 25° Taurus, with Mercury also close by in Taurus, giving this lunation a thoughtful, grounded, and intentional tone.
This day is also the Solar Return of my beloved granddaughter, whom I call petite fleur, a French phrase meaning “little flower.” And how fitting that her birthday arrives in Taurus season, when so many of us in the Northern Hemisphere are heading outside to plant flowers, enjoy the sunshine, ready our gardens, get our hands and maybe even our feet, in the dirt.
Taurus reminds us that growth is not rushed. The seed does not become the flower overnight. The garden does not bloom because we demand it to. It blooms because we tend to it, nourish it, protect it, and trust the timing of what is taking root beneath the surface.
This New Moon holds a conjunction with Mercury in Taurus, bringing attention to our words, our thoughts, and the way we communicate what matters. Mercury in Taurus values the process. It speaks with weight. It asks us to slow down long enough to mean what we say and say what we mean.
There may be a little stubbornness here, too. Taurus is not easily moved once it has settled into a position. But under this New Moon, that steadiness can become a gift. Our communication style is being baked into the new chapter we are beginning. The words we choose, the conversations we have, and the intentions we speak aloud all become part of the soil.
There is also a little turbulence in the air with Uranus back in the sign of Gemini, bringing the possibility of surprising news, sudden conversations, or unexpected developments. Something may shift quickly. A message, a realization, or even a passing comment may rearrange what we thought we knew. Yet the slow and steady determination of Taurus reminds us not to be knocked off center. We can receive the unexpected and still remain grounded.
Every lunation answers to another planet, and with a New Moon in Taurus, we look to Venus. Venus is in Gemini near the end of her journey through the sign, creating a changing dynamic around what we love, what we value, and what we are curious enough to explore. Venus in Gemini asks questions. She listens. She gathers information. She reminds us that value can shift when perspective changes.
Venus and Mercury are in mutual reception, offering support between the mind and the heart, between communication and value. This brings clarity to what we love and how we speak about it. Sometimes words take us by surprise, from family, from loved ones, or even from a stranger on the street, and something inside of us says, Wow. A sentence lands. A conversation opens. A truth rearranges the inner furniture.
Under this lunation, what we value may be reshuffled and reoriented.
Jupiter in Cancer through a sextile offers support, growth, and nourishment, especially when we feel rooted, cared for, and emotionally safe. Jupiter in Cancer naturally shines a light on home, family, memory, belonging, and the places where we feel held. From the novice gardener to the green-thumb aficionado, the soil must be nourished for the garden to grow. We are not so different from the seeds we plant or the flowers we hope to see bloom.
As I thought about what I value most, it always comes back to family.
My petite fleur is blossoming into a beautiful little lady, and for her sixth birthday, we are creating a fairy garden together, connecting to her imagination, her sweetness, and the earthy magic of Taurus. It is a simple act, but simple does not mean small. A fairy garden becomes a memory. A handful of soil becomes a story. A flower planted together becomes something she may carry.
That is Taurus, the sacredness of what is tangible, the beauty of what is remembered, the value of what is tended with love.
As you plant seeds under this New Moon, stay grounded. You do not need to look too far from home to see what is shifting. You may not need to chase the next big thing. The most meaningful growth may already be close by, in your home, in your body, in your garden, in your family, in your words, and in what your heart quietly knows is worth protecting.
This Taurus New Moon reminds us that what we tend will grow.
The garden, the relationship, the home, the body, the child, the dream, the words we speak, and the values we return to again and again, all of it asks for care.
So plant slowly. Speak intentionally. Notice what surprises you. Let what matters become clear.
And remember, sometimes the most sacred new beginning is not far away at all.
Sometimes it is right there in the dirt beneath your hands.
