New Moon Libra October 10th 2026
17° Libra | October 2026
“As above, so below.”
Venus has begun her descent, and all eyes are on her.
As astrologers—and those simply curious about astrology—we keep our eyes on the sky, watching the movements above for the teachings, reflections, and patterns unfolding here on Earth.
This New Moon arrives at 17° Libra, a sign ruled by Venus. Libra is an air sign: social, relational, charming, and often effortlessly flirtatious. She seeks beauty, connection, balance, fairness, and harmony. Libra wants things to feel peaceful. She wants everyone to get along, but this New Moon is answering to a very different Venus.
Venus is retrograde at 7° Scorpio, a sign of her traditional detriment, conjunct Mercury at 12° Scorpio. Venus is also square Mars at 7° Leo, while Mars opposes Pluto retrograde at 3° Aquarius.
This is not the light, polished side of Venus. This is Venus descending; she knows that harmony is no longer enough. Libra wants to restore peace, but Venus in Scorpio is asking you- what is the toxin within this relationship? Are you genuinely happy—or have you been avoiding the conversation because acknowledging the truth could disrupt the harmony you’ve worked so hard to maintain? What are you afraid will happen if you stop keeping the peace?
Scorpio investigates. It digs beneath appearances, searching for what has been hidden, avoided, buried, or denied. As fixed water, Scorpio can represent emotions that have become deeply entrenched. What we refuse to feel does not disappear.
With Mercury conjunct Venus in Scorpio, conversations surrounding love, intimacy, trust, money, desire, loyalty, and self-worth may become more revealing. Something previously hidden from view may begin making its way toward the surface.
This New Moon isn’t simply asking what you want. It is putting the light on what it is that you truly value.
The Descent of Inanna
There is something beautifully symbolic about the story of Inanna under this sky.
Libra understands adornment; think of Inanna before her descent. She knows the beautiful clothing, the jewelry, the charm, the carefully curated image, and the dazzling smile. She understands how we present ourselves to the world—and sometimes how we use those things to help define our worth.
But Venus in Scorpio, symbolic of her descent through the gates, will ask Ianna and each of us- a more uncomfortable question- Who are you when all of it is taken away? Who are you when you are stripped of the titles, roles, relationships, accomplishments, possessions, beauty, and approval that once told you who you were? Who are you when you stand naked, vulnerable, and alone?
In the myth of Inanna, she cannot enter the underworld carrying everything that once represented her power. At each gate, another adornment is removed. Before we decide what we want next- think of the Libra New Moon- we may first need to understand what we have been using to determine our value.
Love, Desire & Power
The tension between Venus in Scorpio and Mars in Leo can illuminate the difference between what we value and what we desire. Mars in Leo wants to act from the heart. It wants recognition, passion, courage, expression, and creative freedom. Venus in Scorpio wants emotional truth. And with Mars opposing Pluto in Aquarius, questions surrounding control, power, pride, autonomy, and transformation can become difficult to ignore. There is pressure within this aspect to reveal what can no longer remain hidden.
Sometimes healing requires pruning. We cut away what has decayed so that energy can return to what is still alive. That process isn’t always graceful ( Libra) It can be painful it can be humbling ( Scorpio), and sometimes it asks us to acknowledge that something we once valued no longer belongs to the person we are becoming.
Before You Plant the Seed
New Moons traditionally invite us to plant intentions, but perhaps this one asks us to wait for a moment before deciding what those intentions should be. If everything external were stripped away, would I still know my worth? Because Inanna eventually rises. She travels back through the gates. What was removed is reclaimed—but she does not return as the same woman who descended.
As Venus moves through her own underworld journey, eventually meeting the Sun and emerging into a new phase of her cycle, there is a similar symbolism available to us. We don’t rise because we managed to avoid the darkness. We rise because we moved through it. And perhaps when we return, we discover that our greatest adornment was never the jewelry, the clothing, the relationship, the title, or the approval.

Sagittarius Rising — Friendship & Community. Take inventory of the people surrounding you. Which friendships and communities reflect the person you are becoming? Belonging shouldn’t require abandoning your values.
Capricorn Rising — Career & Public Life. Your ambitions, reputation, and direction come into focus. Ask whether the success you have been pursuing still represents what matters to you—or whether your definition of achievement is changing.
Aquarius Rising — Beliefs & Perspective. Something may be challenging the way you understand the world. Allow yourself to question an old belief, story, or certainty. Transformation sometimes begins when we’re willing to admit that we see things differently now.
