Venus Retrograde 2026: Revisited, Revealed & Reclaimed
Venus begins her retrograde story in Scorpio, where she is traditionally considered in detriment. Scorpio doesn’t do surface-level relationships. Here Venus wants depth, intimacy, loyalty, merging, emotional investment, and truth. But when these desires become distorted, Scorpio can also reveal jealousy, possessiveness, secrecy, betrayal, obsession, control, fear of loss, and complicated emotional or financial entanglements. From Scorpio Back to Libra, one of the signs she rules. Scorpio asks us to confront what is underneath the relationship. Libra asks us what a healthy relationship actually requires: partnership, equality, reciprocity, cooperation, consideration, negotiation, peace, balance. After Scorpio exposes the attachment, Venus in Libra wants us to ask ourselves: Is this relationship reciprocal? Are we meeting one another halfway? Have I sacrificed too much to maintain peace? Are my needs and values represented here too? What does balance look like now—not eight years ago?
You might be asking yourself, when does this all happen? The shadow began August 31st. Venus stations retrograde October 3 at 8° Scorpio and stations direct November 13 at 22° Libra. But the story may already be unfolding. Since the end of August, I have had my fair share of clients reaching out in the middle of some kind of relationship debacle. Breakups. Old issues resurfacing. Questions about commitment. Feelings that can no longer be ignored.
Venus hasn’t even stationed retrograde yet, and yet she is already opening our eyes to what we may be working with throughout this cycle.
Good Astrology Looks Back to Look Forward
The last time Venus retrograded from Scorpio back into Libra was 2018. Before that: 2010.Before that: 2002. Venus returns to this part of the zodiac on an approximately eight-year rhythm. So before we try to predict what Venus retrograde will bring, look backward.
What was happening in your life in 2018? What themes were present in 2010 or 2002? Think about love, relationships, money, values, pleasure, affection, desire, self-worth, and the choices you were making around partnership.
You don’t need the exact same circumstances to repeat. Astrology rarely works that literally. Instead, look for the thread. What Venusian story are you being asked to revisit from a different place in your life?
As I reflect on these past Venus retrograde cycles, each one connects to a significant turning point in my life around love and relationships. I was born with Venus in Scorpio in the 8th house, part of a grand water trine. The themes of intimacy, vulnerability, trust, and emotional depth have always been woven deeply into the way I experience relationships.
This Venus retrograde feels particularly personal. Venus will station direct on my birthday, while I am traveling on a yoga retreat. I have had a strong sense that this retreat may mark another turning point—not necessarily because I know what will happen, but because I can already feel the invitation to reflect more deeply on where I am now.
Perhaps the most vulnerable expression this retrograde will be how to experience intimacy within a body that is changing. A couple of months shy of 49, living without hormones has brought physical changes that have also been emotionally challenging. It has required me to reconsider intimacy, femininity, desire, vulnerability, and my relationship with my own body in ways I never anticipated. The focus is not necessarily on who I love, but on reflecting on: How do I receive love in the body I inhabit now? How has intimacy changed for me? What parts of myself am I being asked to accept rather than resist? For me, this Venus retrograde may not be only about revisiting relationships with others. It may also be about reclaiming a relationship with myself.
What needs to be purged, eliminated, or exposed so transformation and regeneration can happen? Outdated attachments, unhealthy relationship dynamics, financial entanglements, old values, fear of losing someone—or something—we’ve become attached to. Desires that no longer reflect who we are. Venus retrograde isn’t necessarily asking us to throw everything away. Retrogrades invite us to reconsider. What needs to be revisited, revealed, and reclaimed?
One of the most important signatures surrounding this Venus cycle is her repeated square to Pluto. The first occurs September 16, during the shadow period. Venus squares Pluto again on October 19 while retrograde, and for the final time on December 8 after Venus has stationed direct. This creates a story in three acts. The first square can expose the issue. The retrograde square takes us back into it. The final square may reveal what has actually changed.
Venus-Pluto can bring incredibly intense emotional experiences. Attraction can feel magnetic. Relationships can become consuming. Something—or someone—can draw us in deeply enough to change our consciousness for a time. But Pluto can also expose the shadow side of attachment- control, manipulation, guilt, deception, obsession, power struggles. The fear of losing what we love.
This is when we can ask ourselves or journal about the hard questions- What am I trying to hold onto—and why? Where has love become confused with control? What needs to be brought into the light before it can transform? Sometimes the purge isn’t the relationship. Sometimes it’s the pattern within the relationship.
Venus retrograde conjoins Mercury on October 6, bringing communication into the Venus story. This can be a time for conversations about relationships, affection, values, or money. Negotiations may return to the table, and feelings that have been difficult to articulate may finally need words.
Then, on October 23, Venus retrograde meets the Sun in Scorpio. This is the interior turning point of the Venus retrograde cycle—a moment of illumination in the middle of the review. Something becomes clearer.
Retrogrades Are Invitations to contemplate God, the Universe—whatever language speaks to you—does a fantastic job of inviting contemplation into our lives during retrograde cycles. And I tend to put more weight on Venus and Mars retrogrades than I do on many of the retrogrades we experience throughout the year. These are personal planets. They speak directly to our lived experience. Venus asks what we love, what we value, what we desire, what we attract, what we receive, and how we relate. Mars asks what we pursue, fight for, initiate, and defend. And with Mars retrograde following Venus, this feels less like a passing cosmic weather pattern and more like an extended period of personal reassessment. But first comes Venus. Before we decide what—or whom—we are willing to fight for, Venus may be asking us to determine what is actually worth valuing. So pay attention to what has been stirring since the end of August.
