September 10th New Moon Virgo

“Self-mastery by eliminating personal faults.”

The Virgo New Moon on September 10th brings us back to the work of refinement.

Virgo is often viewed only through the lens of perfection, when more often it is about recognizing what can be improved, eliminating what gets in the way, and becoming more intentional about where we place our energy.

The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon carries the image of a swimming race, bringing forward themes of competition, focus, training, and personal excellence. But perhaps this New Moon asks us to pause and consider: Is the real competition actually with the person swimming beside us?

The lower expression competes with others. The more evolved expression competes with the person we were yesterday, moving toward greater self-mastery.

Does the Eight of Pentacles come to mind?

In Tarot, we see the craftsman devoted to his work, repeating the process again and again as he develops his skill. Astrologically, the 5th house is where we discover our passions, creativity, and the things that bring us joy. It is through the 6th house—the house naturally associated with Virgo—that we put those gifts to work. Through practice and refinement, we develop our craft.

A swimmer cannot control the person in the next lane. They can only improve their own stroke, breath, strength, and focus. This New Moon asks us to do the same.

Mercury, ruler of Virgo, is in Libra and connected through an Air trine with Pluto in Aquarius and Uranus in Gemini. Ideas, conversations, and new perspectives can move quickly under this New Moon. Something may suddenly click. A conversation may shift your thinking, or an idea may emerge that deserves more attention.

With Mercury in Libra, pay particular attention to what is being revealed through partnerships, friendships, and close relationships. Sometimes another person becomes the mirror that allows us to see something differently.

This is fertile ground for planting new ideas, changing the way we communicate, and thinking differently about what comes next.

The New Moon also sextiles Mars in Cancer, bringing Earth and Water together.

Earth and Water grow.Virgo provides the soil—the plan, the practice, and the attention to detail. Mars in Cancer brings emotional investment and the instinct to protect and nurture what matters.

What we plant now still requires our participation. The seed needs to be tended.

Jupiter in Leo is separating from its trine to Saturn retrograde in Aries, reinforcing the relationship between vision and discipline. It is one thing to imagine what we could become. It is another to practice becoming it.

Virgo understands that we have to keep showing up. Repetition, refinement, and small adjustments are what eventually get the job done.

Venus in Scorpio, already moving through her retrograde shadow, opposes Chiron in Taurus, adding another layer to the story. Growth often reveals the places where we still feel uncomfortable, vulnerable, or uncertain of our own value.

But we grow when we are stretched.

We sharpen our abilities when we challenge ourselves, and we become more focused when we stop measuring our progress against everyone else’s.

The swimmer beside you has their own race. Your job is to swim yours.

Refine your technique. Strengthen what needs strengthening. Eliminate what slows you down. Keep practicing. Use this New Moon and its pursuit of personal excellence not to become better than someone else, but to become more masterful at being yourself.

Aries Rising — 6th House

Refine your daily life.

For Aries rising, the Virgo New Moon falls in your 6th house of work, routines, habits, health, and the practices that support everyday life.

This is Virgo’s natural territory, making this an especially potent New Moon for looking closely at how you spend your time and energy. What habit would make your life function better if you practiced it consistently? What routine has become inefficient? Where have small distractions begun stealing energy from something that actually matters?

You don’t need to reinvent your entire life. Choose one thing and improve it.

Taurus Rising — 5th House

Refine your creative expression.

For Taurus rising, the Virgo New Moon activates your 5th house of creativity, pleasure, passion, romance, and self-expression.

Talent is discovered here, but talent also needs practice.

Something you love may be asking for more of your attention. Instead of waiting for inspiration, Virgo asks what could happen if you treated your creativity like a craft. Practice it. Develop it. Give it structure.

This New Moon can also bring renewed attention to romance and the question of what genuinely brings you joy rather than what you think should.

Gemini Rising — 4th House

Refine your foundation.

For Gemini rising, the Virgo New Moon falls in your 4th house of home, family, roots, and emotional foundations.

Something at the base of your life may need attention. This could be as practical as reorganizing your home or as internal as recognizing an old family pattern that no longer deserves to follow you forward.

Your ruler Mercury is especially active during this New Moon, suggesting that a conversation, realization, or change in perspective could help you understand your foundations differently.

Before building higher, strengthen what everything else rests upon.

Cancer Rising — 3rd House

Refine your thinking.

For Cancer rising, the Virgo New Moon activates your 3rd house of communication, learning, writing, ideas, and your everyday environment.

Your mind may be especially active now. There could be something you want to learn, teach, write, organize, or finally put into words.

The opportunity is not simply to have more ideas but to become more intentional about which ideas deserve your attention.

Your words matter. Your thoughts become habits too.

Leo Rising — 2nd House

Refine your relationship with value.

For Leo rising, the Virgo New Moon falls in your 2nd house of money, resources, possessions, skills, and self-worth.

This is an opportunity to become more intentional about what you have and what you are building. Look at your finances, but don’t stop there. The 2nd house also represents the abilities and resources you possess.

Virgo Rising — 1st House

Refine yourself.

This is your New Moon.

Falling in your 1st house of identity, body, direction, and personal expression, this lunation begins a new chapter in how you approach your own development.

You may be noticing something about yourself that you are ready to change, not because you aren’t enough as you are, but because you recognize your own potential.

Be careful of Virgo’s temptation to turn self-improvement into self-criticism. Refinement works best when observation replaces judgment.

You are both the swimmer and the race.

Libra Rising — 12th House

Refine what happens behind the scenes.

For Libra rising, the Virgo New Moon falls in your 12th house of rest, retreat, unconscious patterns, endings, and the parts of life that happen privately.

Not every improvement needs to be visible.

This New Moon may reveal a habit, thought pattern, attachment, or unfinished chapter that quietly consumes more energy than you realize. Clearing it creates space.

With Mercury moving through your sign, you may be finding language for something you previously couldn’t quite explain.

Scorpio Rising — 11th House

Refine your vision for the future.

For Scorpio rising, the Virgo New Moon activates your 11th house of friendships, community, networks, goals, and future aspirations.

Look at the people and plans surrounding the future you are trying to create.

Do your current connections support where you are going? Are your goals specific enough to act upon, or have they remained ideas without a plan?

Virgo wants you to take the larger vision and break it into something workable.

The future isn’t created all at once. It is assembled through the choices you repeatedly make today.

Sagittarius Rising — 10th House

Refine your direction.

For Sagittarius rising, the Virgo New Moon lands at the top of your chart in your 10th house of career, reputation, achievement, and public life.

You may be thinking seriously about what you want to become known for.

Instead of focusing only on the destination, Virgo asks you to examine your technique. What skill needs strengthening? What professional habit needs improvement? What could you do exceptionally well if you committed yourself to mastering it?

Recognition often follows repetition.

Do the work first.

Capricorn Rising — 9th House

Refine what you believe.

For Capricorn rising, the Virgo New Moon activates your 9th house of higher education, philosophy, travel, spirituality, teaching, publishing, and the search for meaning.

You may be questioning an idea you once accepted without examination or becoming increasingly interested in studying something more deeply.

Virgo wants evidence. It wants understanding built through experience rather than assumption.

Study. Explore. Ask better questions.

Your worldview grows when you remain willing to refine it.

Aquarius Rising — 8th House

Refine what you share.

For Aquarius rising, the Virgo New Moon falls in your 8th house of intimacy, shared resources, debts, investments, vulnerability, and psychological transformation.

Something complicated may need to become clearer.

This could involve money shared with another person, an emotional entanglement, a financial obligation, or a deeper pattern around trust and vulnerability.

Virgo helps you sort through what has become tangled.

Pisces Rising — 7th House

Refine your relationships.

For Pisces Rising, the Virgo New Moon occurs in your 7th house of partnership, commitment, collaboration, and one-to-one relationships.

Relationships become the mirror.

Rather than focusing exclusively on what another person is doing, this New Moon asks you to examine how you participate in your relationships. What patterns keep repeating? What could improve through clearer communication, stronger boundaries, or more intentional effort?
